I spent some time updating my school beginnings packet! Please download the updated version for yourself! If you have already purchased it, it is a free download.
The packet has activities to keep you and your little ones going during the first week of school. (k-2) Each activity has a literature tie in, a group lesson, and something for the students to do as well. This is how I begin my writing portfolio for each child as well, because there are growth comparison pages for you to give your students now at the beginning of the year, and then again, at the end of the year.
If you ask me, the first week is the most exhausting week of the school year. Because of this, I like to have way more prepped and ready than I think I will ever need. Lord knows those sweet babies coming in are not independent and can not sit and attend to tasks for very long!
Since I am talking about the first week, here’s a few other items that I have prepped and ready at the beginning of the school year. Now don’t get mad and throw stuff. I haven’t actually prepped it for this year I am merely letting you know.
Setting Expectations/Goals with a craft for each day
CC and Texas TEK aligned math word wall, essential questions, big ideas, vocabulary, visuals and work mats
Math Meeting Starters for the entire year! This is a packet with 180 different CC aligned math questions to help K-1 students prepare for testing format. It can be a math journal for your kids, a teacher resource for you, or both!
My first round of literacy activities which I use all year long!
I know there are many other things I will use to kick off my year, but for now that’s about all I can handle…
As of now, my classroom is packed away into a storage facility about 3 miles from my new school. I am on the lookout for some beefy guys to hire to help me with the chore of moving. I guess I could try James and Mikey since they are no longer on the Bachelorette…I bet their schedules have cleared right up…
No, you can’t click their pictures to head to my store…

Watch out! You may just have a "connection" while on your group moving themed date! heehee JK of course.
oh no! Not with these two meatheads! I just need manual labor! ha ha ha!
do you have any beg. of the year math centers for kindergarten?
Thanks,
Lucille
Oh, you should TOTALLY link this up to my Back-To-School Bonanza Linky! These look great!

Fun In First
I'm loving the sight word sticks. My students would benefit a great deal. I like the idea that I can have my own list of words to add to the activity. This is a 'MUST HAVE'. My family members help me each year to update my classroom and the activities I have for my centers. Sight word sticks will be on my list for them to get.
WOW!! These are AMAZING. Almost makes me wish I was teaching first grade. . .almost. Any chance you are thinking of making these for any other grade levels??
Ha I love the James and Mikey reference! Love your blog!

Eye Candy in the classroom would be awesome. Perhaps they would attract more parents to visit the classroom regularly. Might be worth investigating. Until then I'll just keep enjoying your blog and using your wonderful creations.
