I can’t believe it is only Tuesday! We have made major progress this week! Insert happy dance for this teacher! I introduced word work with the Raking Up Leaves activity and today we learned our first Sight Word Stick Center! House of sticks was highly popular and perfect for my new little firsties!
We are in the midst of studying insects…So this week a great Eric Carle book study is just what we needed! We used this for our reading response today. First we did this chart together…next the students made their own.
We also created apple models and labeled them. I bought paper plates in the three colors and shrunk the freebie labels I got from What the Teacher Wants. ((Thanks Ladies!))
The apple fact and opinion also came from What the Teacher Wants.

I am so glad your table looks like that too! Someday I may be able to see the top.

fun!! I haven't gotten into my apple activities since I was waiting to see what grade I was going to be teaching…or grades…whichever. but I'm excited for fall/apples! 🙂
I am excited to get into my apple activities next week! Thanks for sharing all of these fun activities. Your estimation station looks like a great idea. I think I'm going to have to look into that! 🙂

I love the house of sticks! Is that something you have created and is it available for download? My guided reading table doubles as my desk, so it is essentially always a dumping ground!

Yes it is in a set called sight word sticks:)
I love the gumball machine! Super cute!
Your apple activities look awesome!
I see the oh so lovely TPRI letters. Do you typically have students who can read both of the stories for the beginning of the year? Just curious…I think I could read all of story 2 by memory now. =)

That's exactly what my table looks like! I had the (what felt like) brainy idea to get rid of my teacher desk, so now my centers table is my main hub and sometimes I just have to do the paper shuffle so my kiddos have room for their assessments!
ps….fact & opinion was what the teacher wants…the link you gave 🙂
Adorable. I want to be a kiddo in your classroom! We did your rainbow acrostic poems for open house and they were a huge hit! There are pics on my blog:)
I love your apple unit. So how many candy corn were there in the gumball machine?
There were 446!!!! This time we will fill it with something larger so we don't have to count quite so high!
Is the caterpillar page available for download?
Love the apple fun! It's one of my favorite seasons & units! Come on over & peek at what we did in 2nd grade with apples! I'd love to have ya!

I just happen to run across your site through buying a product of yours through TPT and noticed you live up the road from me. 🙂 It's a small world. Where do you teach? I teach Special Ed at MacArthur. 🙂 Have a good week.

I downloaded the sight words product. This will be great for small group work.
