It’s been a long day but I wanted to try out my new blog on a quick post! Thanks to Polka Dot Dandy I have a fresh new look. 🙂 Fun!
Here’s our penguiny day.
We read our second Tacky book today and responded! They are getting so much better at it now! I am so thrilled! We’ve responded to two Tacky books using my Tacky {Penguin Themed} reading response pack.
Then in the afternoon during our science block, we used our knowledge of telling sentences to write what we know about Penguins.
I made this penguin chart inspired by Cara, who got it from Abby, inspired by Deana Jump….
But I changed it up and let the kids write the post its on their own. Some of them were able to write two and some were able to write one, but everyone added to the chart!
The students wrote their telling sentences on purple post-its for our schema.
Then asking sentences on yellow post its around the penguins.

Can penguins hear from far away? |
We will answer our asking questions and add to our new knowledge section of our penguin. We only had one misconception so far and it was “Penguins are mammals”. I was just excited that they were thinking like scientists and remembering vocabulary. HOLLA!

Awesome!

SOooooooooooooo, cute and polka-dotty!!!!! I love the colors together. It's making me antsy for my new look. Can't wait!!!!!
Your penguin activities are so darn cute. I'm going to have to think of a way to use the telling asking activity with my kiddos {we don't "do" penguins}….they are getting stumped by when to use a period or a question mark.
Hugs!

So dot-ally fun! And I REALLY wanted to borrow your signature, but it would be confusing if I started signing my posts "Reagan."
That penguin is mighty cute. Your kids are so smart. And wonderfully curious too. (Can penguins hear from far away?) I'm thinking it's because they have a FABULOUS teacher.
Sixth graders ask questions too. Lately the most common one is: "Do we have to do this?"
Then again, I think that every time I see "Meeting" on the weekly bulletin.
Golly. maybe I'm actually twelve…
