So tonight for dinner we had good ol’ fashioned chili dogs. {that sounded weird-are chili dogs old fashioned???} Perfect for a Summer evening after swimming all day! I opened one giant can of chili. The picture does not seem to show how BIG this can is…
I got excited about having a big metal can. I decided to make a phonics/word work lesson out of it!
This can sits in your word work area and as you introduce a new sound/chunk each week, you add that little bird card to the can along with it’s corresponding worm words. When students go to the Can o’ Worms they will sort the worms by sound/chunks and “hide” them in the dirt. See lesson for instructions and example!

This is great! Thanks for the download and neat idea all around!

Sounds like the beginning of a new book to me:
"If You Give a Teacher a Big Can." lol
Love this idea. thanks for posting it. This activity will go perfectly in my Learning Garden.

Cute! Thanks for sharing.
Holy Moly! This is such a cute activity – I can't WAIT to make it!!!
Love this activity! Would it be possible to get blank images of the bird and worm so that I can add on? My kiddos are working on ai this week, and would love to be able to add that to the can! 🙂
Thank you for all of your hard work and your willingness to share it!
